Ok, that was bad and probably not the best night for me to decide to experimentally enter the world of Cardblogging.
Did anyone hear the TLR postgame comments? Since clubhouse acoustics suck and Tony was talking a little low, I’m not entirely sure but it sounds like Marquis wanted to go back out for the 6th. If so, Marquis gets a sticky foil star for respectable attitude/effort/responsibility, even if he did get the crap kicked outta him.
Sticky foil stars? Remember that pack of multicolored stars your elementary teachers always had on hand for well-done assignments and good effort? The teacher in me motivates me to adopt an online version of that. Of course, there’s a hierarchy of the stars. Naturally, the first ones to go were the gold stars, as they held the most prestige. Next are the silver stars which are pretty durn good but not a gold a star – it means the smart/well-behaved kids got to the stars before you did. The next three are up for debate, but I say next in line is blue since blue is just a likeable color across the board and is generally the standby in absentia of the gold and silver stars. We’ll call red next since it at least has some semblance of winning (ie red ribbons at the science fair) and although most related to the beloved Cards, fourth on our hierarchy of stars. Last comes the green star, usually the color never picked because the teacher caved and started using another sheet of stars to cut down on fights stemming from star wars but still a star representing a performance of some note.
Gold, silver, blue, red, green. Got it?
I think Jason Marquis deserves some sticky star to note his sound beating by the White Sox but a bullheaded desire willingness to return for the 6th inning. Congratulations Jason, you get the first Sticky Foil Star awarded by the College of Cardinals. It’s a close call but I’ve got to go with green instead of red, the color of the bleeding that was this game. A green star since plenty of hits landed in the outfield grass for hits but he was still willing to try and give the bullpen some relief. A sorta decent effort that I’m willing to acknowledge since I happen to be sickeningly optimistic.
