Good lord, a day of dealing with those afflicted with SB syndrome and other screamers made me want to have a screaming, crying, appendage-pounding fit when I read the article going with this headline: Cardinals shuffle pitching rotation. I let out a big WOOHOO!!! in the hope that Marquis, Weaver, or a combination thereof were gone and some other capable warm body was filling the spot. Turns out it just meant Weaver takes his turn Thursday in place of the starter previously to be determined and Suppan goes later, against. the. Cubs. Special care was taken to indicate that Marquis will start on Friday’s series opener against the Cubs.
Ok, I expected that. It sucks, I hate it, I don’t like it, and if Tony/Dave were in my class, I’d put them in time-out — one minute for each year they’ve been alive. As much as we’ve been screaming and shouting about how the pitching ought to be run for a good portion of the season, I didn’t really expect that they’d start using fan/media input (or apparently even common sense) to delegate pitching duties. But it gets even worse. Thompson (from the overworked bullpen, with a respectable record since he was brought up) was optioned to AAA and Timo brought up in his place.
Timo?? Insert string of obscenities, your choice, here. I’ll contribute a WTF. Junior Spivey (who’s been bottled lightning lately) is probably a better choice and I am for some unknown reason, vehemently opposed to his presence on the team. Does anybody else get the feeling Tony and Dave might just be playing with us like a cat plays with a mouse right before he kills it?
Yesterday was a first for me. The first day I was ever glad the Cardinals had an off-day. Ever. All my life. Ok, so I’ve not been a fan all my life, but still. I was glad to be spared any crap that might have resulted from any Cardinal baseball activity.
Carp vs. Harang tonight, this better be good or someone’s going to have to stop me from rocking back and forth in the corner whispering ‘Carp vs. Harang, Carp vs. Harang’. I just might have to bake some brownies to help me get through this mess. Or maybe I’ll swing by Catholic Supply and pick up some St. Jude candles to help get through this.
