Chris Carpenter pitched another shutout complete game to rescue the team. Tonight he was good for 9.0 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 HBP, and 5 K, pretty much earning him an automatic gold Sticky Foil Star. With our win and the Reds’ opposite loss, we our lead moves to 2.5 games, which means we’re not anywhere near the edge of the woods yet.
Put simply, we — everybody including the team, fans, and deceased fans rolling in their graves — needed that in several different respects: productive offense, strong pitching, bullpen rest, and a splashy performance by Belliard, who batted in two and made three hits, two extra-base. It’s good to see you show up; please play like this as long as you’re here and you’ll earn more shiny stars like the gold one you’re getting tonight for offensive merit.
Tomorrow I’m going to the game (free tickets!) and I’m looking forward to using my new information about Freel’s little schizophrenic buddy. I hear my seats are somewhere in the vicinity of home plate and the weather will be appropriate for high socks. A’right Reyes, your turn. Your mom called, she said she wants you to throw the four seamer.
I think the brick paver I bought in memory of my dad did a jig after last night’s game, or maybe it was my father, from up above, saying, “it’s about effing time!”
