Sticky Foil Star Stats
June 25, 2006 by Elle
Awarded solely at my discretion with absolutely no statistical basis, I award a Sticky Foil Star to one (or more, if I’m feeling particularly generous) Cardinal player from each game. Even in the worst games (such as the STL vs. CHW series which got the ball rolling), there’s usually some good performance that a sickeningly optimistic person like me will point out.
Why a Sticky Foil Star? Why not a cool bobblehead named after yourself like the Hungo? Remember back to grade school when your teachers used those gold (and other colored) foil stars to reward good performances. I’m a[n unemployed] teacher and I remember that. I’ll just borrow the explanation from the original post:
“Sticky foil stars? Remember that pack of multicolored stars your elementary teachers always had on hand for well-done assignments and good effort? The teacher in me motivates me to adopt an online version of that. Of course, there’s a hierarchy of the stars. Naturally, the first ones to go were the gold stars, as they held the most prestige. Next are the silver stars which are pretty durn good but not a gold a star - it means the smart/well-behaved kids got to the stars before you did. The next three are up for debate, but I say next in line is blue since blue is just a likeable color across the board and is generally the standby in absentia of the gold and silver stars. We’ll call red next since it at least has some semblance of winning (ie red ribbons at the science fair) and although most related to the beloved Cards, fourth on our hierarchy of stars. Last comes the green star, usually the color never picked because the teacher caved and started using another sheet of stars to cut down on fights stemming from star wars but still a star representing a performance of some note.”
Gold, silver, blue, red, green. All noting some good performance but in different shiny colors.

Guys will get added on here as the season goes and as they give sticky foil star-worthy performances.
I feel like I should add a disclaimer that a lack of stars does not necessarily indicate weakness, just like a pile of stars doesn’t necessarily indicate strength. It means I saw something I liked, whether it was a 5/5 night, a well-applied tag, a shutout game, or a really cool catch. Remember kids, the Sticky Foil Star is an incredibly subjective pseudostat usually awarded late at night. Don’t make any fantasy trades based on this, unless you’re in my league, in which case take it for full value!
